Testimonials from our Play Development Program instructors

My time at Dramatic Question Theatre (DQT) as a playwriting instructor has been deeply inspiring. DQT provides me with the freedom and support to cultivate a safe, creative environment for participants in the writing program. In doing so, it offers a vital platform for writers whose voices may exist outside the mainstream, empowering them to be heard and celebrated.

- Carmen Rivera, Instructor, PlayTime

Dramatic Question Theatre is doing heroic work of supporting playwrights at various stages in their career, or guiding and offering mentorship opportunities to writers shaping their works in progress and especially to artists making adventurous pieces for performance. DQT is a vital resource in the NY theatre landscape, and their work should be encouraged to continue.

- Caridad Svich, Instructor, Classics in Color

Dramatic Question Theatre is the premiere development organization, cultivating visceral new work from diverse communities, underrepresented identities that are crafting compelling works across mediums, forms, solo, full length and adaptation. Each year, the number of vital works developed that otherwise would not have had the opportunity to flourish in the field, has a home at DQT...

I’ve had the unique positionality of being both a playwright whose work has been presented by DQT and an instructor for the American Woman program, developing dynamic solos that grapple with the most urgent issues of our time, demand innovation in theatricality, honors the experiences of narratives rarely presented in mainstream representation. This holistic and fruitful space  to cultivate these innovative emerging voices can only be attributed to DQT’s approach, values and community building through storytelling. Both perspectives, as a playwright and instructor I treasure this unique space that has been a lifeline to truly explore narratives and theatrical vocabularies not accessible in the majority of spaces.

Michael and Maria’s vision to cultivate works through community, rigor and progressive approaches in the field has garnered a body of work that continues to grow and connect a national scope of artist communities and presenters.

- Raquel Almazan, Instructor, American Woman
